Steve Breland has 32 years of accident reconstruction experience and is retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He began his law enforcement career while serving in the US Marine Corps as a Military Police Officer (MP), where he also served as a traffic investigator. Breland was a charter member of the SCHP Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), although he began reconstruction training in 1987. Rising through the ranks of the MAIT unit, Breland served as Sergeant and First Sergeant of the Midlands MAIT, and he was the eastern region commander. Breland then served as Major for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office over its Investigations and Special Services Divisions.
Breland has full accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR), and he is retired from the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Association of Reconstruction Specialists (SCARS), in which he has a lifetime membership. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and training programs; he has presented at insurance conferences, in-service training sessions, coroner’s conferences, and at accident reconstruction conferences.
Breland has reconstructed over 1000 accidents and has investigated thousands of accidents. He has received over 4000 hours of training in accident investigation and related topics. He was an adjunct instructor of accident reconstruction for Texas A&M TEEX.
