John R. Stauder is a Principal and Senior Consulting Engineer with The Fire Consultants, Inc., and holds professional engineering licenses in both mechanical and fire protection engineering across numerous states, including California, New York, Texas, and Virginia, among others. With over 22 years of experience, he offers deep expertise in fire protection engineering, building code consulting, and the design and evaluation of fire protection systems.

Mr. Stauder’s background includes extensive involvement in projects of varying complexity and scale, including high-rise residential and office towers, mixed-use developments, retail centers, distilleries, airport terminals, hotels, atria, aircraft hangars, and military installations. His work frequently involves collaboration with architects, developers, engineers, building owners, and authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with both model and state building and fire codes.

He is well-versed in the design and evaluation of fire protection systems such as automatic sprinkler and standpipe systems, fire detection and alarm systems, fire pumps, special hazard systems, and smoke control systems. Mr. Stauder regularly conducts code studies and develops fire protection and life safety strategies, often identifying and implementing alternative approaches to meet or exceed code requirements.

His practical knowledge of construction, particularly as it relates to fire protection in both new and existing buildings, strengthens his effectiveness as an expert witness. Mr. Stauder has recently begun serving in this capacity, including work on a construction defects litigation case. He also has past experience in evidence chain-of-custody procedures for a similar case.

Mr. Stauder holds a Professional Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University. His technical specialties include fire protection, building and fire codes, fire alarms and suppression systems, life safety, and fire engineering.
