He has been an expert witness on over 20 cases and has provided depositions and trial testimony. He was informed his testimony helped win a 26-million-dollar judgement for a utility client suing a power plant. He has also written expert opinion reports for ergonomic issues, a fireplace explosion, a human factors related case and several workplace design issues.

He has performed human factors and ergonomic studies for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, NASA, and the Department of Defense/US Navy. He has conducted hundreds of industrial ergonomic assessments and thousands of office ergonomic assessments. He has performed return to work studies for the construction and telecommunication industries. He worked as a safety engineer in the chemical industry. He analyzed accidents in the chemical, aviation and nuclear industries.

He is currently professor emeritus and was a full professor, with numerous journal articles and conference proceedings. He has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and symposia. He has authored/co-authored four books. The most recent was: Ostrom, L.T., and Wilhelmsen, C.A., Risk Assessment Tools and Techniques and Their Application, John Wiley and Sons; second Edition, Published July 30, 2019. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE). He was a radiation safety officer, a certified competent fall protection specialist, a certified fire inspector – 1 and a certified fire plan examiner. He is a private pilot. He is also a Certified Technology Manager.
